Only God Forgives (2013) by Nicolas Winding Refn
Only God Forgives is a interest film with a strange concept but the storyline is linear throughout. There are certain scenes which takes you into the mind of the main character Jilian (Ryan Gosling) and it explores what he thinks of the world he lives in. The film tends to focus on lighting and scenery more than the characters. The locations are beautiful and it does show the audience how gorgeous the surroundings are but how bad every character is in the film. I feel that it is a great contrast of what's good and whats bad in the world.
The cinematography used many lighting gels to set the tone of the scenes and the audience can identify what the director wants to viewers to think. As this is experimental film, some scene have a conveyed meaning to them which is not clear for the mainstream audiences. This is not a film of everyone's taste but you do have to concentrate.
